Thats all she wrote. The World Changers project of Birmingham July 11th-July 18th 2009 has come to a close. All 310 participants will be able to leave knowing they made a difference for Chirst this week here in Birmingham. We had a total of 26 houses that received repairs on and 26 lucky homeowners that had their lives changed forever. Countless other lives have been changed by the work that was done this week. Whether be neighbors of the homeowners, family or friends of the homeowners or even participants, God did big things in Birmingham this week. We had 4 community salvation’s, 4 participant salvation’s and 18 participant rededication’s. Wow! God was moving through so many lives this week and it was amazing to see! It is our hope and prayer that those whose lives were changed, will be able to grow in their walk with Christ and will be able to stand strong in him when they face trials and tribulations. Please pray that for those who were in the community who got saved, that they may find a church to plug into and may be fed and have their cup overflow with God’s spirit and mercy. Pray for the students and leaders as they go back home that they don’t just let this be a one week missions experience but that this may be a start of a revival for Christ in their communities back home. Please pray that they take everything they learned this week and go home and make an impact for Christ!
We would like to thank all of the faculty here at Jackson Olin who helped make this possible. Thank you for allowing us to use your facilities, thank you for preparing meals for us everyday, and thank you for cleaning up after us while we were away at the worksites. We appreciate all that you have done for us this week and hope that God may bless you the rest of your lives. Thank you to Wayne Cook for putting all of this together and making this project happen. Thank you to all the coordinators and supervisors who assisted Wayne in making this all possible. And finally, thank you to all the participants for all that you did this week. For giving up your time and money to come here to love and serve others with such selfless hearts. It was a blessing to see all that you did this week! Take it all home with you and be set apart for Christ. Checking Out.

The end is in sight! As many crews left Jackson Olin this morning, they set out to their sites knowing that by the end of the day, they will have changed a homeowners life! Multiple crews finished up their sites today and many others are right behind, approaching the finish line. These students have been giving it their all every single day! They didn’t let the early obstacles get in the way of them finishing the work that God has set out for them this week. For those crews who have yet to finish, help will be arriving these next few days. They will get help from the crews who have completed their projects so that every homeowner will be able to look upon their house, knowing it was repaired with the love of God. Please pray that the weather the next two days won’t set us back, for there is rain in the forecast. Pray that no matter what obstacle is thrown our way, the students will lean on God and will be able to persevere. We can’t wait to see what it all looks like once that last nail is hammered and that last spot is painted.
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matt. 9: 37-38 This is what Wayne really wanted us to get tonight. He used this verse in response to Isaiah 6:8 which says, ”Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Wayne wanted us to realize that Christ is wanting people to go out into the harvest and make the crop grow. God ask Isaiah whom shall I send? God is wanting to use people to sow his harvest field, it’s up to us to be his workers. We are the ones that need to go plant the seed, we are the ones that need to help water the seed, and when this is done, we are the ones that get to watch the seed grow. God is giving us the opportunity to go into his harvest and work, he doesn’t need us to, but he wants us to. If we as Christians don’t go into the harvest, who here will? f we don’t reach out to the ones God has intended us to reach, who will? We need to go into the harvest with tools in hand. If we want to impact our communities for Christ we better get off the couch and get into the harvest. He died for us, we owe it to him to reach those who are lost! Pray that as the days are winding down that the students will keep this servant attitude in Birmingham and when we go back home. Pray we go home and make a difference for Christ! Checking out.

The smell of exhaust and the sound of students laughing, thats how day number two got of to a bang here in Birmingham. Students and adults went full throttle and kept the pedal to metal as they worked on their sites today. A lot of progress was made today and despite the set backs, some crews might be able to finish their projects tomorrow! Wednesdays would normally be our off day but do to the rain that is expected thursday and friday, we have switched it up and will work tomorrow and have the off night thursday. So please pray that God will hold the rain back so we will be able to finish the work we have started.
Sweetly broken, wholly surrendered. That is how God was moving tonight. We had our concert of prayer and God was moving like you wouldn’t believe. Tonight we went through the ACTS prayer. Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. We challenged the students to adore God through their worship and prayer. We then challenged them to confess anything that was hindering them from experiencing God in his fullness. As staff we went and shared our testimony to show them how God can work and change lives. We then gave them a chance to come before God and confess the things in their life that are keeping them from being in a fulfilling relationship with God. After we had confessed what we needed we went into a state of thanksgiving. Thanking God aloud for what he has done for us. Thanksgiving allows us to realize how good and gracious and loving God is. We then went into a state of supplication, we asked them to pray how God would use them this week and not only this week, but when they returned home as well. We put up the percentages of unchurched people in each county that is represented here this week. This allows it to be more personal and to see how much people in our hometowns need God. Tonight we rejoiced at the sound of crying because that means God was moving tonight, God was changing lives and molding hearts. Please pray that as this week continues, we would also continue to pray how God can use each of us this week. Signing Out.

Crashes of lightening and roars of thunder, thats how the day started here in Birmingham. We had thunderstorms up until eight this morning. Due to weather, we were unable to have the great send off at the regular time. However God calmed the storms and we were able to send them off at 9:30! Crews worked EXTREMELY hard today to catch up on the hours we lost. Despite the set backs, the participants kept a positive attitude and are very excited about the progress that was made today. Tomorrow looks promising with blue skies in the forecast and selfless God serving students eager to share his love!
Tonight at worship Wayne spoke on Isaiah 6:5-7 which says ” Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Wayne really hit on verse five when Isaiah says “Woe to me.” Isaiah never noticed how dirty and messed up he was until he saw God in all his glory. It was then that Isaiah realized he was “ruined.” Isaiah was one of the greatest writing prophets, and for him to realize that he is ruined compared to God makes a huge statement. We are nothing compared to God. In his presence we are so little and he is so big. But this God that is so much bigger than us, still wants to be in relationship with us. He wants us to be holy. He wants us to be “set apart” in him. We have a whole lot of junk in our lives that we need to ask God to get rid of. We need to realize that we are nothing without him, and besides him we are ruined. Pray that we would move out of the way this week and let God rush in to take this city by storm. Pray that he keeps us safe and that he will speak through us this week! Checking Out.

Today was the day we were able to fellowship. All of the participants met who was going to be on their crew this week. We have 31 crews consisting of 10-14 people. These 31 crews will be working on 26 houses this week throughout the surrounding area. The crews were able to meet the church that is going to be feeding them this week and they attended their church service and then the churches provided them lunch. Once they were done eating, the crews went to go check out their worksites. This gave them an opportunity to see the work that needs to be done and allowed them to meet their homeowners and the neighbors in the area. This gives them a great opportunity to witness to the people in that area and to let them know why they are there. Once they finished up evangelizing in their neighborhoods, they headed back to the school.
At 4:30 we all headed to evangelism training. Wayne challenged every participant to share their faith at least once this week! All the construction being done is an amazing opportunity, but what a waste it would be if we didn’t take that opportunity to share our faith. After evangelism training, we headed to crew position training, there are 4 positions a participant can take responsibility of: Break Masters, Evangelism Recorder, Devotion Leader, and Medic. The break masters are in charge of filling up the coolers each morning and making sure everyone is taking enough breaks and drinking enough water. Evangelism Recorders are in charge of keeping track of how many people are saved this week, how many people share their faith and how how many times we present Gospel. The Devotion Leader is in charge of the daily devotion each day and making sure the crew is keeping their eyes focused on God. The Medic is in charge of keeping everybody in good shape, giving them bandages and keeping the area safe! Once they were done with training, we headed to dinner and then to worship.
Tonight at worship Wayne challenged us to wake up and see what God has for us. Wayne took us through Isaiah 6: 1-4 and really focused on verse three which says, ” Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” The whole earth is full of his glory, what a bold statement. This means that everywhere we look we are looking at God, whether it be at the trees or the flowers, or the moon and the stars, God is all around us. If he is all around us, what a great opportunity to be in a relationship with him! Like is says in Matthew 28, He will be with us until the very end of the age. God is everywhere we are, he surrounds us, it is up to us to wake up and take advantage of that. God desires to be in relationship with us but too often we just go through the motions and end up becoming sunday christians. We can’t afford to just go through the motions, we must wake up and see that God has so much more for us and if we can realize that, he will impact us in many ways and use us to impact the lives of many others! Please pray that as we head off to our worksites tomorrow we wake up and open our eyes to what God has for us this week! Pray that we push ourselves out of the way and allow him to work in and through us! Checking Out.

Today after all the churches arrived and got settled into there rooms we had a welcome celebration for them to kick off the week. After that was over we headed to dinner for some tasty chicken fingers with cheese and potatoes along with peas and salad. Once we were done stuffing our faces, we headed to worship. Wayne hit on 1 Peter 2:9 in which Peter is explaining how we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. Wayne really hit on the fact that God has chosen us. The creator of all things, the God of the universe has chosen us to be his royal priesthood and his holy nation. Holy means “set apart” which is crazy because “set apart” is the theme for this years world changers. We are a set apart nation. We are set apart through how we live our lives for Christ and because others can tell us apart by how we act and how we treat others. It goes on to say he has called us out of darkness and into his marvelous light. God has called us out of the ways of the world and to live in his light so we may be “set apart” and so we may shine that light on others. Pray that we keep that in mind this week, that we will be set apart in Christ and we will shine that light. Checking out.

Its friday and we can not wait to have all the participants arrive tomorrow!! We are anxiously awaiting the mass amount of church caravans to pull into the parking lot here at Jackson Olin High School. We are excited to meet all 310 of the participants and can’t wait to serve beside them this week! We will have 31 crews working on 26 different houses this week in Birmingham. Please pray that God would begin to pave the way for these students and their ministry. Pray that he would begin to open the hearts and minds of all participants and those they will come in contact with. Pray that he will give us opportunities and boldness to share our faith, and please pray that he would have his hand on us this week to keep us safe. We would like to take this time to introduce those who will make this project possible. We would like to start by introducing our three amazing coordinators. The go to guy for this project is Project Coordinator and Worship Speaker Mr. Wayne Cook.
