Missions on the Mind

“He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

 -Jim Elliott

Our focus tonight was missions. We had the Missions Round Table tonight and had 37 students and three adults come to learn more about opportunities that they can be involved with. It is such an encouragement to see how God is moving throughout not only the lives of the homeowners but in the lives of the participants. It is World Changers’ goal to see each student commit either a semester or summer to missions before they graduate from college.

We love each and every student that we have had the privilege of getting to know.

Wednesday Night = Success

Today was a successful day. World Changers made it on the front page of the Gallup Independent. Participants got to enjoy a night off.

We have anticipated this week to see what God would do. To see how he would deliver. Even though we may have been expecting to see God paint this trip in a deep color of red, we have been delighted to see the strokes of pink and light magentas. By that I mean to say that each person here at World Changers has been incredibly flexible. God has bent and pushed each soul to lean deeper on Him, and we are taking joy in the tiredness. We are finding hope in the empty spaces. And we are seeing His light in the darkest of places.

Continue to pray that we would persevere this week.

A Visit From a Senator

Today was an excellent day to begin working at crew sites here in Gallup, NM. The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining, and the students were full of energy as they circled up on the basketball courts of JFK middle school. Dwayne, the project coordinator, commissioned the crews before they set out for work.

We received a call from the local pastor of the First Baptist Church of Gallup saying that the state senator of the region wanted to visit some work sites and greet the students. Senator George Munoz went to three different work sites and got to see just why 217 students decided to come and provide free labor for the community: to share God’s love.

We are all excited to see God move through each student this week. Would you partner with us in praying for the lives of the students and citizens of Gallup to be forever changed?

Sunday Afternoon Nap…Not Here…

t’s–gasp–going to–gasp–be a great–gasp–week! It’s really hard to keep your breath over 6000 feet above sea level. We have had so much fun today. Each crew met today for the first time. As we stood in the middle of the gym, circling for a full view, it was incredible to see how God put together such eccentric groups of kids.

The staff, along with three other crews went to First Baptist Church of Gallup this morning and heard Pastor Jay McCollum speak about what it means to be on mission according to Acts 16:9-10.

This afternoon each of the crews went out to visit their homeowners and meet their neighbors. This was a great exercise of the participant’s witness to share why they chose to come to Gallup, New Mexico.

Tonight in worship, Dwayne reminded the group to be amazed at God’s holiness. We read from Isaiah 6. It was our prayer for the night that each of the participants would leave this missions experience completely changed…so changed that there is even a physical difference in their appearance.

Please pray for each student and adult as they head out for their first day of labor tomorrow.

A World Changers Welcome

Today is the day…the smell of duct tape, the sound of vans and busses pulling in a parking lot, and the inevitable sight of that beautiful World Changers banner hanging outside JFK Middle School here in Gallup, New Mexico can only mean one thing: Today is the day that World Changers starts! We are so excited to see the safe arrival of each group today. Even though we saw First Baptist of Brownville, TX arrive at 11:00 pm tonight.

The staff and coordinators have been preparing and anticipating this moment for many months now. We are Dwayne Ulmer, the Project Coordinator. Vonda Nutt, the Missions Communication Specialist/Team Leader. Katie Wiggins is the Office Manager. Chris Rouse is the Audio/Visual Technician. And Andrew McCallum is the Music Leader.

Worship tonight was powerful. Dwayne, the Project Coordinator, is doubling as our speaker this week. He laid out a message about being set apart and what that really means. The quote of the night is, “We are not set apart because of who we are, but because of whose we are.”
